Abstract:
The flow about an inclined airship body is dominated by turbulent 3D flow separation. The separated flow a#ects the pressure distribution in such a way that dynamic lift is generated causing induced drag. The reliable theoretical prediction of the resulting forces and moments would be valuable in order to investigate many influence parameters to come to a good airship design. An efficient aerodynamic calculation method, based on a coupled inviscid/viscous approach was developed. The inviscid outer flow is calculated by means of a 3D panel-method (named ROVLM) including a wake simulation. The location of the 3D separation line is determined by a 3D integral boundary-layer method (named INBOL). This paper concentrates on the description of the applied boundary-layer calculation method.
