In this paper a modular environment for the nested numerical optimisation of adaptive transonic airfoils is presented. Its efficiency is increased by an MPI based parallelisation approach. Several geometry parametrisation techniques were implemented and evaluated by means of the Taguchi method. Applying the optimisation tool, a transonic airfoil with an adaptive shock control bump was designed and compared to a supercritical airfoil optimised for identical design points.
