Before his appointment to the University of Stuttgart, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ewald Krämer, born on February 20, 1960 in Ochtendung near Koblenz (Rhineland-Palatinate), was an officer in the German Air Force for 12 years and then worked in the aviation industry for 15 years. From 1990 to 2004, he held various positions within EADS Deutschland GmbH in the field of aircraft development with a focus on aerodynamics. In his last position, he was Head of the Flight Physics Department at EADS Military Aircraft in Ottobrunn near Munich, where he was involved, among other things, in the development of the Eurofighter.
In October 2004, Prof. Krämer accepted an appointment at the University of Stuttgart, where he has since headed the Institute of Aerodynamics and Gas Dynamics and represented the field of fluid mechanics in teaching. His research focused on the experimental and numerical aerodynamics of aircraft, helicopters and wind turbines.
He supervised and continues to supervise a large number of doctoral students, almost 60 of whom have successfully completed their doctorates to date. As Dean of Studies (2006 to 2016), he shaped the conversion of the LRT diploma course to the new Bachelor's/Master's structure and was a member of the Faculty Board of the Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy Faculty.
In 2019, Prof. Krämer received the University of Stuttgart Teaching Award. With this award, the University of Stuttgart recognized, at the suggestion of the students, Prof. Krämer's great commitment to his lectures, in particular the professional use of technical equipment and the various forms of student activation.
Farewell Party on March 21, 2025
On March 21, 2025, a farewell party was held at the IAG, to which not only current employees but also former companions and his former doctoral students were invited. To Prof. Krämer's great delight, many of them accepted the invitation of their doctoral supervisor and even some of them did not shy away from long journeys.
