Experimental Gas Dynamics

Institute of Aerodynamics and Gasdynamics

The working group deals with experimental fundamental research in the field of compressible external, internal and boundary layer flows. Another focus is the optimization of necessary short-term measurement methods and the further development of experimental facilities.

Supersonic channels in the so-called "suck-down" principle

  • Mach number range 1,5 - 3,0
  • Measurement times up to 3 minutes
  • Medium supersonic wind tunnel designed as a so-called half-model channel
  • Measurement technology used: hot-wire hot-film anemometry, pressure and temperature sensors, heat flow sensors and optical methods

Projekts and research

Research Topics:

  • Laminar-turbulent boundary layer transition
  • Shock-boundary layer interaction at supersonic inlets and optical methods
  • Spurious mode detection in boundary layers and free flow
  • Development of a new hypersonic wind channel
